League of Women Voters sets task force meeting on Weld commissioner district changes
Video conference is free for public to attend with registration
The League of Women Voters of Greeley-Weld County are participating in a video conference with the state organization’s Elections Task Force on March 15 on a question the Gadfly would like answered, as well: “Is Weld Breaking Redistricting Law?”
I’ve brought up this question before, ahead of the commissioners’ meeting March 1, in which the commissioners voted to approve a commissioner district map with few changes from a map produced in 2017.
House Bill 1047, which was approved by the Colorado Legislature in 2021, added to state law a slew of new requirements for when counties alter commissioner district boundaries. Weld County probably failed to adhere to a number of those requirements, especially with regard to how many maps were prepared and considered and how often feedback was solicited from residents.
